This beautiful ski-in cabin sits on the bank of a rushing stream on a large private lot. On one side it looks into a forest with old growth trees . On the other side, the view is of a sunny area with lodgepole pines and huckleberry bushes. It is in the Trillum Lake / Summit Meadow area, in a small settlement of homes, totally surrounded by national forest but close-in to Government Camp amenities. This is a place to enjoy peace and the natural world.
The location is a mecca for those who love cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and tranquility. In winter, there can be 12 compacted feet of snow on the ground burying the windows of two of the bedrooms in a sheet of white while the winter views from the main floor are spectacular.
In summer, sitting out on the covered porch, the sound of the stream is a joy to listen to. A quick walk takes you into Summit Meadow with its gorgeous flowers and one of the best views of Mt. Hood. There are also plenty of opportunities to enjoy the out of doors. For those that want to paddle or fish, the boat launch at Trillium Lake can be reached in ten minutes. Hiking trails provide access to spectacular country and gravel roads offer mountain biking opportunities.
Winter access is limited to skis or snowshoes. Most guests park in the parking lot across from the Timberline lodge cut-off and come in along the groomed ski /snowshoe trail that starts there. The cabin is 1 1/4 miles down the trail. The beginning of the trail down is steep, so many guests will want to snowshoe in.
Summer access is by vehicle after the forest service is satisfied that the road is adequately cleared of snow. The road in is also closed prior to the first major snowstorm. So guests coming in during the months of November through June need to be prepared to get in without a vehicle, although some years it is possible to get in during November and June. If you cannot drive in, you can access the cabin along a gorgeous trail through a deep, beautiful forest or walk down the peaceful closed road.
Once you reach the cabin, you will find a very comfortable home filled with beautifully finished wood and many interesting artifacts from the 100 some years that the Marshall family has enjoyed family-owned cabins in this area. This cabin, built in 1996, has a living room, kitchen and dining room that are open to each other, providing a nice venue, for relaxing and enjoying a fire in the wood stove.
The kitchen is well equipped and has counter space for several cooks. It looks out over the stream.
The master bedroom, with a queen bed, has a lovely view out over the stream and its cathedral ceiling gives it an airy feeling.
The two downstairs bedrooms (queen in one and a full plus a twin in the other) have very large windows and views out over the stream, until snow builds up too high to see out.
The loft area (leave the door open to heat) is a great place for kids. It has a queen, twin and full bed.
While, you may not want to use it, given the sense of tranquility and peace this home offers (it also has wifi, so you can stay connected, if you want to be). Please call us with questions you might have about this truly unique property.
