Remember those bedtime stories your Mom and Dad read to you? There was always a cute little house where the woodsman lived. Well, this is it. Built in 1927, this historic cabin is located on one-third of an acre in the towering cedars and firs of Mt. Hood; perfect for a weekend family outing, romantic getaway, or a week-long working vacation. Located just past the Resort at the Mountain golf course, The Cedars is far enough from the highway to hear only the sounds of the Salmon River and the wood stove. It is not too secluded, however, as it sits in the midst of a charming neighborhood by the river.

From its wood stove, brick fireplace, and knotted wood-panelled walls, Cedars Cabin is quintessential rustic. Ah, and that old woodsman never had a DVD and CD player, or an iPod dock. He certainly didn't have free WIFI. Settle in on the comfy couch, or take a seat on the back porch and listen to soothing sounds of the Sandy River rushing nearby. Little chilly? Just fire up the other wood stove right there on the porch, make yourself some hot coffee, and relax! You'll also find a collection of games and puzzles.

Nothing is quaint about Cedar's kitchen either. Newly remodeled, it is well-lit, well stocked, and waiting to match your culinary skills from porterhouse to pasta. There's lots of counter space as well for easy prep work, and a microwave for quick snacks. Enjoy your meals at the wooden table for four. Or, hop on the internet and check out the 13 eateries in the Welches area.

Cedars Cabin sleeps four. It has two bedrooms, one with a beautifully crafted door and great big windows with views of the surrounding forest. Both have queen beds with comforters and soft linens. There's one bathroom done in an unmistakably woodsy feel that would make the woodsman proud. Primary Heat source is a gas stove.

Mt. Hood is the perfect place to be in the winter. The Cedars is only a 15 minute drive from Government Camp, 19 miles to Timberline, and 24 miles to Mt. Hood Meadows. In summer, Cedars is just a 5 minute drive from the Salmon River where anglers, kayakers can test their mettle in the cool, rushing waters. Lots of hiking trails too. Wildwood National Forest, with its "Streamwatch" program is close by, not to mention the 31 other hiking trails in the Mount Hood Area.

Truly a quiet mountain getawayGuest: ndmom(Salem, OR)Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 6/26/10 We had the most relaxing stay away from home at this cozy cabin. It's very clean and comfortable. We went on an easy hike around the Timothy Lake, had lunch at the Timberline Lodge, and then stop at the Trillium Lake. We thoroughly enjoyed the day. Next day we went to the Wildwood Recreation Site and we're so glad we did. It would also be a great place to visit with younger children. Thanks for sharing this wonderful cabin.

The Cedars Cabin on Mt. Hood- A Quiet Mountain GetawayGuest: Elizabeth,Barb and Morgan(Portland, OR)Date of Stay: 06/13/10 Review Submitted: 06/17/10 The cabin exceeded our expectations. Often one worries the 1st time you use a vacation rental. No worries folks! The minute we walked in the door we were at home in the country and well cared for. The living/dining room was well furnished with comfortable chairs and couch. The kitchen was beautiful, well stocked to do some fine cooking. Lots of good restaurants nearby. The beds were comfortable with comforters and soft linens. Everything was clean by ecofriendly products,so no odd smells! Looking for a cabin in the woods, this is it. Many activities close by or simply lounge. Enjoy!

Guest: Shannon61(Eugene, Oregon) Date of Stay: 01/17/10 Review Submitted: 01/17/10 We all thouroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin - including the fussy dog. She had no problem relaxing in front of the fire, hiking through the woods and snowshoeing up on the mountain where we could actually find snow this year. Very comfortable and well appointed. Thanks!

Very happy; one tiny thing - the neighbors place to the north was a real eyesore and we had a bit of concern that their kid thought it was okay to visit us. I like kids but we have two dogs and we didn't want any interaction. He was a bit pesky when I told him he needed to go home.

The cabin's interior is as lovely and cozy as described in the listing. It is clean and comfortable. It is not as private or remote as I thought it would be though, with houses right on top of each other. There was construction work being done within 100 feet of my bedroom at 7am. The kitchen is not as great as it sounds in the listing, although it is fully functional.

It was disappointing to not have T.V. so we could watch the British Open. But the home is cute, the beds are comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at the Welches Cabin for two nights with our two young children (2 and 7). We found the cabin to be everything we were looking for - and even more! The two bedrooms fit our family perfectly and the home contained lots of entertainment options from games and movies to the outdoor stove and natural surroundings. I was very impressed with how clean the cabin was! Being so deep in the woods you would expect to see lots of little critters or bugs around, but I didn't even see one spider web inside. We would definitely recommend this cabin and would stay here again ourselves!

Cabin was clean and close to the mountain. Pleasantly surprised on how equiped the kitchen was, as well as entertainment (movies and board games).

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Welches, and this cabin had a great, quiet outlook onto the creek and property. The kitchen was well stocked, the bed was comfortable, and everything was cozy, clean, and in good order. We were a little disappointed to see that we were expected to supply our own wood for the (much-touted) wood-burning stoves. The expectations for us to clean the cabin before we left, on top of what already felt like a high cleaning fee, seemed a bit much. Nevertheless, it was a great stay and we very much enjoyed daily relaxing walks around the neighborhood streets.

My husband and I stayed in the Cedars for five nights and enjoyed every minute. We were in a stressful transition of moving and interviewing for jobs and this place had me relaxed as soon as I walked in the door. The kitchen is cute and had everything we needed to cook, the fireplaces made it cozy in the cool nights, great collection of movies and games/puzzles, and Internet to boot! Nice collection of hikes and community info. We loved it. FYI the Soup Spoon and Wraptitude are awesome places to eat lunch and breakfast (respectively).

Wonderfully stocked little cabin, we felt right at home in this cozy little place! The small kitchen had everything we needed to cook, there were two nice beds, not too hard, not too soft, and plenty of room to stretch out. We've stayed in rentals that felt like rentals, but this felt like borrowing a vacation home from a friend! The games and videos were fun at night and there was plenty to do in the area during the day of course. Be aware thought that there is a very friendly neighborhood dog who also like to do a doo-doo in that back (cleaned it up twice). No biggy, just watch where you step! My son played catch with the dog, he was a nice added bonus for us! The people in Welches were very friendly in the shops, too, and we'd highly recommend the pizza place. ;)
Manager Response: Thank you for your review! Thanks for the heads up on the dog, we will talk to the neighbors about cleaning up after him! We look forward to having you back!

Clean, comfortable cabin. As another had mentioned it isn't as secluded as the photos make it appear but still quiet & private. Our 2 children thought it was great. Beats a hotel room, especially for a longer stay, plus the advantage of having a working kitchen

I was impressed how all our needs were met. The notes around the house tell us how things worked, the expectations and where things were wonderful. The only thing that detracted from our stay was the remote for the TV would set off the smoke/gas alarm in the living. When we moved it to another part of the room it was fine. We really appreciated the cleanliness. We had a wonderful time.

Wonderful stay, just me & my boyfriend. Loved the charm of this place. Yes, floors slope, that's what happens when you convert porches, very common in old houses (1927). Owners purchased adjoining lot, so nice woodsy feel and space to breathe! Neighbors near front of house not an issue because you're on the back deck, which faces trees and creek. Great wood burning fireplace on back deck, was so cozy! Gas stove AND wood burning stove inside. Had decent stereo & iPod dock. Lots of firewood available. Great location closer to Portland than beach. Thank you for accepting dogs, she LOVED it! Took long bath. No van fan in bathroom, just fyi. Kitchen great & well stocked. Only suggestions would be bring newspaper/kindling & mgmt might want to use double sided tape or rug mat because rugs do slip. Also, dvd remote didn't work, might need batteries. Very well managed with plenty of notes and information about local hikes. Tons of towels, large hot water heater. Two nights is not enough, check-

Cozy cabin, reasonably appointed. We had a pleasant stay and especially enjoyed the multiple fireplaces. FYI: the photos make the place look much more secluded that in reality. Several houses surround the property.

I wanted to surprise my boyfriend with a fun trip away from the city for his 31st birthday. After looking on VRBO I came across this location and fell in love with the photos right away! Then I read the comments from other people and I was hooked. The place is just as wonderful as it appears! It's quaint, cozy decore and beautiful surroundings make this location the perfect get-a-way for any two couples (even some with some kids). There was fire wood at our disposal, along with many games and movies to choose from. I will come to this cabin again and would recommend it to anyone!

Beds very comfortable, cozy ambience. Good mid-way point between Sandy and Government Camp; no cable on the TV, however, so we missed the Oscars.

My family totally enjoyed the cabin. The running creek behind the house was a peaceful sound early in the morning while having coffee on the back porch. The fireplace really added the feel of being in the middle of the woods. We had the pleasure of meeting all of the neighborhood dogs which would come over to play with us. I will definatly rent another home from Vacasa. They were very helpful.
