Factoid: Translated, "Mesopotamia" means "between three rivers." Since Basecamp 26 is poised near the confluence of the Sandy River to the north, the Salmon River and Still Creek to the south, you could technically say it's in Mesopotamia. However, this charming home - reminiscent of a Swiss Chalet - is actually in picturesque Rhododendron and, as its topography would suggest, is a fisherperson's paradise. Little Rhododendron, however, grew up with the ski industry, and considering its proximity to five ski resorts (including Mt. Hood Meadows, about 28 minutes away), it's also a great place for winter sports as well. It's the perfect alpine retreat for skiers, snowboarders and summer enthusiasts alike. The house also features a new private hot tub that is the perfect place to wind down after a day's adventure!

You'll swear you're in a chalet in the Swiss Alps when you stay in this 1828 square foot home, decorated with classic heavy timbers and intricate woodwork. A gas fireplace warms the living room with steady heat without poking at logs (central heating throughout). Skis and bindings decorate the walls in a fun and inviting way. Come hang your coats on the bindings, sit on the plush couches and relax as you look out at the forest behind the home and enjoy good company. There's a TV with Cable and a VCR/DVD player as well so you can catch up on the movies you've been wanting to see. And load up the iPod: there's a dock for that as well.

Enjoy a spirited foosball match in the game room, all under the light from a fun chandelier made of antlers and the warmth of the wood stove. Plenty of room for spectators on the two couches and love seat. It also has a large, five pair boot/glove dryer that will get you dry and back up on the slopes the next day. One of the couches is a sleeper sofa, and there's a half bath in the game room as well.

A body can work up an appetite after a day on the slopes, hiking on the many trails around Rhododendron, or even bird watching. No problem. This home has a fully stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances, including a huge fridge and a dishwasher for fast, easy clean up. Enjoy your meal around the wooden dining table with room for six. If you'd like to eat out, check for local restaurants on the free WiFi. Weather permitting, step through the big, sliding glass doors onto the deck.

With three bedrooms, a sleeper sofa in the game room, and two twin cots, up to eight tired vacationers can bed down for the night. The bedroom on the main floor has a charming queen sleigh bed with a beautiful acorn and oak leaf detail and a large, rustic style dresser. Down the hall is a large bathroom with a stand up shower that is easier for guests with mobility difficulties. On the same floor is a separate laundry room with a washer and dryer and more of the great ski bindings to hang your ski gear to dry.

Upstairs you'll find a king sized sleigh bed and large closet space. Across the hall on the reclaimed wood floors is a room with two twin beds and large closets. In the middle of the bedrooms is a separate bathroom with an A frame window over the bathtub to let the sun dance on your face as the water warms your bones, tired from a hard day of fun.

With its proximity to three rivers, Rhododendron is a haven for fly-fishing with a reputable outfitter just down the road in town and down the road in nearby Welches. Rhododendron is also a great place for bird watchers with two of the official Oregon Cascades Birding Trails nearby. And of course there's plenty of skiing. (Take advantage of the special Vacasa offer at Mount Hood Meadows!) In summer, enjoy hiking, boating, rafting, climbing, horseback riding, fishing and more. Oh, and no need to leave pooch behind. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

We had a great time, eventough we had a couple of hiccups in our stay. Great location right off hwy 26. Neighibors are close but we never did ever see anyone else.Nice open floor plan, with a great extra livingroom/recroom.

The location allowed for easy on and off Hwy 26 for skiing at Ski Bowl. We enjoyed both the gas and wood stove which made the cabin very cozy. This was a very comfortable cabin for 2 families. However, the kitchen supplies are slim for cooking for large groups. The staff quickly replaced the coffee pot which was not working and fixed the poor smelling hot tub. We had a great time playing in the snow at Ski bowl, Mt Hood Meadows, Sledding up Lolo Pass Road, and hiking along the Salmon River and Zig Zag River. The one bummer was that there is no access to hiking from the cabin, but the central location made it easy to drive to various places. Fun time for all.

My family and I had an amazing time! The house is beautiful and spacious. My one and only complaint is they advertise the half bath in the game room and it was locked. It made it more difficult since we had five kids down there. With the amount of money you pay to rent a house like this it's disappointing. All in all we had the best time and can't wait to go back and stay at Basecamp 26!

My family and I stayed here while visiting Portland. The scenery is gorgeous with Mt. Hood looming over your drive in. The house was perfect for our group of ten people with plenty of space and bathrooms for all of us. We did have a little trouble with the sliding glass door, but someone was out to fix it the very next day. The hot tub was very nice and provided a great spot to watch the meteor shower. I would definitely recommend this property to anybody who wanted a cozy, comfortable home base while enjoying the amazing scenery of Mt. Hood National Park.

We loved the beauty of the Rhododenron area hanging out at the river, hiking up to zig-zag falls, delicious breakfast at the Barlow Trail Inn.

The cabin itself, although very clean, well stocked, with a nice layout, was disappointing. The cabin had terrible lighting and we are all readers, so that was a little frustrating, but, more than anything, it seems like it is in need of some serious repairs. The sliding door got stuck open and since it was very late at night we just went to bed with it that way and called in the morning about it - I was wondering what critters we would find in our kitchen in the morning. Then the alarm system started beeping incessantly. We moved out to the deck to wait for maintenance. Three hours later, we were watching a movie, heard the alarm beep once and 10 minutes later emergency vehicles were in front of the cabin saying they got a call for a medical emergency. At that point we decided to just pack it up and leave a day early. Oh - and forgot about the call about the hot tub the day before, which wasn't working at all - it was more like a tepid bath. That did turn out to be an easy fix (breaker).

Vacasa was great in working with us, especially Joe in maintenance - there just seemed to be too many reasons for me to be talking with them on my vacation!

Manager Response: We are so very sorry for this string of mishaps. Please know that we are addressing the issue with the door and the alarm and that the hot tub is working just fine. Hopefully you were able to enjoy your time.

Went with my bf for a few days. It's very close to highway, which wasn't suitable for a romantic getaway or leaving windows open during hot evenings if you're a light sleeper. Hot tub was amazing...neighbors are RIGHT THERE, but the lid of hot tub gives privacy and neighbors are really nice. Condition of property is moderate...some remodeled, some dated. Kitchen was good with newer appliances & well stocked with cookware, dishes, etc. Bed was comfortable. Liked having two living room areas, rec room was cooler for hot days. Our Chihuahua had a great time! Nice loop to walk her right outside house. We choose this property because we wanted dog friendly and it had a hot tub. Bring your own deck chairs. Property was much larger than needed for 2 people. Good layout for larger group with all the separate spaces, 2.5 bathrooms and large dining table.
