Perched on a slight bluff above the Pacific, this unique Seadrifter Beach House offers unbelievable ocean views from nearly every vantage point: the sun-drenched deck, the gourmet kitchen, the cozy sofas, even a queen-sized bed. And when you're ready to get a little closer to the surf, simply head down your private staircase to a long, quiet stretch of white sand. With benches situated at landings along the staircase, you'll have plenty of spots to enjoy your morning coffee or evening glass of wine while watching the waves roll ashore.
With wide windows, exposed timber beams, and polished hardwood floors, this three bedroom vacation home offers a bright and warm retreat at any time of year. In the summer, the outdoor deck and private beachfront staircase will certainly be the popular place to while away the afternoons. Of course, it does occasionally rain along the Oregon Coast, but that's no problem when you're settled into the Seadrifter's living room. Light the cozy gas fireplace, put a good movie on the flat-screen cable TV with DVD player, and sink onto one of the comfortable sofas facing the wall of picture windows. With a mug of hot chocolate in hand and the thundering display of a winter storm rolling in, you may not even miss the sunshine!
The designated chef in your group will appreciate the well-stocked kitchen, positioned beneath a pair of skylights and offering its own beautiful ocean views. With stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, and cabinets stocked with plenty of cookware and dishes, keeping even the hungriest hikers and fishermen is a pleasure (and of course, there's a dishwasher for easy clean-up). A cheery expandable dining table sits up to eight under the skylights, or gather around the picnic table on the deck to enjoy some barbecue fresh off the charcoal grill.
With three spacious bedrooms, up to nine guests can share the Seadrifter (but is most comfortable if three to four of those guests are kids or young adults). The master bedroom has a lovely queen-sized bed, and the upper level bedroom has an additional queen and a futon with some of the best views in the house! The third bedroom has a twin-over-full bunk, and there are two full baths. The washer/dryer makes it easier to share space and keep suitcases light, and wireless Internet allows you to stay connected to the office even while looking out over the ocean.
Of course, the star attraction of the home is its private stairwell leading from the deck down to the beach. There are two benches along the way to stop and take in the views, and the staircase ends in a small wetlands area before opening up onto a miles-long stretch of sand. This particular slice of the coast is quiet and frequently uncrowded, making it an excellent spot for searching for seashells or simply enjoying a bit of solitude.
When you need a little more excitement, the charming town of Seal Rock is just five minutes north, with its eclectic handful of businesses (think old-school diner, sushi restaurant, and glass-blowing studio); furthermore, within fifteen minutes you can be window-shopping in the heart of Newport's bustling bayfront, sipping a fresh pint at Rogue Brewery, or gaping at the otherworldly creatures in the famous Oregon Coast Aquarium. Heading south, the Alsea River winds through the laid-back village of Waldport, drawing in fishermen, crabbers, clammers, and kayakers. The Seadrifter is practically surrounded by state parks and close to the Siuslaw National Forest, making the location especially attractive to hikers looking for trails through old-growth coastal forests or more challenging climbs to scenic vistas.
