Step into the enormous great room of this lodge and you'll wonder if, by Brightwood, they're referring not so much to the village a few miles away as to the riot of wood paneling that lines the inside of this home from floor to ceiling. Some of the rooms look as though they've been turned inside out! But you won't find a modern kitchen, a hot tub, or a dry sauna in the forest outside. From the custom chairs sprouting branches to the shake-shingle walls, this beautiful lodge seems more like a cottage in a Grimm tale.

The Mountain Air Lodge is nestled on a wooded acre alongside the beautiful Sandy River. You can delight in the sights and sounds of the rushing river from the warmth of the house - or walk along the private riverside trail.

And don't let the quaint decor fool you - this place has all the bells and whistles! There's cable TV, a DVD player, and a CD player. For unplugged fun, head to the rec room for a game of ping-pong, or foosball, or out to the garage for a game of hoops. For more sedate pleasure, grab one of the many board games. There's lots of couch space and so many big windows in this lodge, the walls seem to be made of glass! You'll have great views of the trees from every vantage point.

Get even closer to the forest out on the deck. Sink into the hot tub's warm swirling waters and delight in the rushing sound of the Sandy nearby.

Mountain Air has a modern, well-stocked kitchen with stainless steel appliances and beautiful stone tile in the counters and floors. You'll find plenty of serving bowls as well and an ample supply of spices. Six hungry people can sit at the glass table with padded chairs, plus two more at another table with stick chairs sprouting branches. Enjoy your meal out on the deck at the big picnic table in the warmer months.

There are three bedrooms in this unique and spacious lodge. Open the shades in the morning in one, and you'll feel like you're outside. In another - with shake shingles all around - it just might seem like you're already out there! Shower in the warmth of the sun as it streams in through the skylight in one of the three bathrooms. The earthen-toned tiles in the floor and the stall continue the pastoral theme of the rest of the lodge.

Mountain Air Lodge is right on the Sandy River, about five minutes from Brightwood. Take a walk on one of the nearby trails that run along the river in back of the property, or try one of the nine hiking trails right around Brightwood. If you've got the bike with you, Brightwood is the place! There are no less than 17 bike trails in the area. Of course there's fishing, kaying, rafting as well. Or, head down the road to Welches for a great game of golf. And that's just summer! In winter, this beautiful lodge can be the perfect home base for your forays into the many ski areas like SkiBowl or Mount Hood Meadows. Come anytime. Where else can you find cool chairs made of sticks?

We would stay here again! We had two families (5 kids) and had a great time, the garage was perfect for them so they could ride bikes, play basketball and just run around. Being on the River was also nice and not being able to see any neighbors from inside the house, complete privacy.

This was the second time I've stayed and I love it. Warehouse is great with ping pong/basketball/foosball, and a hot tub/sauna to relax. Fantastic for a big group of friends. Some added bonuses are the grill on the porch and the surround sound in the living room.

Could not have picked a hotter vacation time, but the home was equipped with fans and plenty of shade trees. The Sandy River (only steps from the house) was a perfect spot to spend relaxing. Even made use of the hot tub...GREAT TRIP. Thanks so much for sharing your home.

Could be a beautiful place with great amenities. Many items were broken or in disrepair. Couldn't use the oven or the bbq when they were needed. Really, really hot and no fans - which was difficult for my elderly mother and for my sister who is recovering from chemo. They did bring fans for the third day of stay. Hopefully the owners and property management will improve the place, because it could be really awesome.
Manager Response: We indeed are addressing the items you've mentioned for our future guests and would love to have you back!

Lots to love about this place: the setting is beautiful, very private, closer to the river than I imagined (and the riverbank, with the fire pit, is excellent). The deck is large and comfortable and the dry sauna, double-headed shower, hot tub, and game room are nice bonuses. On the other hand, it's a bit dark and stale in the way that 1970s houses sometimes are. Most of the windows don't open, and the ones that do don't have screens to keep out mosquitos. So we couldn't cool down the house. Even on a not-too-hot day, the house was hot and stuffy and smelled faintly like other people's pets. The ping pong table is a little warped. The hot tub was unplugged when we arrived and the fuse was blown. (And it took 12+ hours to heat up when we fixed it.) The main item of "handmade furniture" is a wobbly, possibly unsafe glass table, not really suitable for eating or playing games. They could make the place a lot better by investing in a few small improvements (like a table and a sliding screen door). I'd come again, though. Love that river.
Manager Response: We really appreciate these suggestions!

My friends and I had a great time at the Mt. Air . It was close to a store in Welches. Close to Mt hood and was a pleasure to stay in. The Hot tub and Sauna were a fantastic bonus and we all really loved the look of the place. Sort of really well kept 70's cabin. Very charming.

We spent 3 nights here over spring break with 3 other couples. It was a prefect location, secluded with a great pathway down to the river. The hot tub and the sauna were great!

Our family was able to come together for dinner, to exchange presents and to just enjoy each other's company. It was a WONDERFUL Christmas, one for the record books, one that memories are made out of. The cabin was great and the setting was tranquil, beside the Sandy River, amongst the trees, nestled at the base of Mt. Hood. We will diffinately be back again, as everyone had such a fantastic time. Maybe we'll come back in the summer, different season, different amenities. Thank you, the Mook Family!

Three couples stayed here in the 3 bedrooms. We had ample room for everyone and the family room/kitchen/dining area is a great gathering place for eating, conversation and board games (which are in ample supply). The hot tub and dry sauna were glorious additions to a day of exploring in the forest and along the Sandy River at the back of the property. A hike to the left of the back of the property along the river about a quarter of a mile down, you will encounter three dogs who will attack you. My wife was bitten and treated at the Hoodland Fire station and a police report was filed. No "beware" signs are posted. Finally, two skillets need to be replaced and the vacuum needs some servicing. Otherwise, it was a great place and we would stay there again!
Manager Response: Thank you for your review! I am really sorry to hear about your wife. We will try to get that person to do something about his dogs as it is a public easement so there should not be dangerous animals roaming free.

On 10-25-11 one of our sons was hit by a bus on his bicycle. After surgery to put a steel plate in his head and four days of hospital time, he was able to walk away. His brother from the Army, stationed in El Paso and his brother from Las Vegas flew in to be with him.

Feeling very blessed with much to be thankful for, we celebrated Thanksgiving last week at Mountain Air. What a wonderful place, so comfortable for our family. Enough room for all to spread out. Enough activities to keep us occupied, great kitchen to cook a large meal in. They even had a great assortment of serving platters and bowls. The peace and serenity were just what the doctor ordered after they nightmare that was our life the week before. It was so easy to be emersed into the scenery. None of us desired to leave. This will be a Thanksgiving to remember for the rest of our lives.

Thank you for sharing it with us. Best wishes always

The Fred Foster Family

This place was great. I live in North Portland and it only took 1 hour to get there and back. It was really nice, decorated interestingly, tons of natural wood that was beautiful. The walls and ceilings were so inventive - I've never seen anything like them.

Other than that it was just a great place to stay and relax - the hot tub worked well, the sauna worked well, it was great to have 3 bathrooms, no one ever had to wait. One bathroom even had a double headed shower. I like that it was an older home, I'm not too into the new craftsman style cheap construction.

The kitchen was nicely stocked with some oil, salt, and spices, as well as some tea with a sign saying feel free to enjoy - you can just tell the owners are nice people (I'm not their friend - this was just a great rental). There were also about 10 ice trays (nice if you are planning on relaxing with friends and adult beverages). There was also a closet with blankets, tons of pillows, etc. The place just felt stocked, I've rented a few places where you just feel like they're trying to nickle and dime every little thing, or they lock the toilet paper so you run out and have to buy your own.

The rec room is pretty amazing - with basketball, foosball and ping pong. It was also nice that they have recycling out there. I like not having to lug a million things back to Portland with me just to be sure that they don't throw it all away.

There are neighbors somewhat close, you can see a house on either side, but it did feel really private anyway. I don't think we heard them, and I don't think they heard us - the house felt well insulated.

I would definitely rent again!

We had a wonderful stay with our children and grandchildren. The house was well equipped and accommodated six adults and two children very comfortably. It's a lovely setting by the river--a favorite for the children--and well located for hikes on Mt. Hood. The management was very responsive. The only thing lacking was a wifi connection.

This home is very wonderful. They had everything that we needed and we had such a wonderful time. The scenery was breathtaking, the trees and ferns were tranquil and the hot tub and sauna were the cherry on top.

There were only two things that could be improved: the top plug of each of the power outlets in the upstairs bedroom and bathroom wouldn't work. So to plug in my cell, fan and sleep machine...I was maxed out on plugs. That made it a bit inconvenient when it came to lighting. I would unplug the sleep machine, read and then when ready to get some "Z's" I would try to quickly unplug the light while having the plug for the machine ready....but wasn't always successful in finding the bottom plug without some feeling around.

And, there were tons of glassware but it would have been nice if there could be more glasses instead of mason jars. There was one with a handle on it that was clear so that was workable for Mom to have ice water in but I had to use a coffe

We had an incredible stay. It's a beautiful house, with tons of exposed wood, which gives it a great feel. The creekfront location is great, and it has every amenity I could imagine, from a hot tub and sauna to foosball and indoor basketball for the kids!

I appreciate that fact that I did not have to speak to anyone to reserve this rental; fantastic process! The place was completely stocked with practically everything you might need, all in working order. I thought it was a bit strange that the hot tub maintenance guy called me to arrange a time to stop by. I guess in the end the call was appreciated (better than him just showing up) but I don't think he should have come at all. There's a 6hr window between check out and check in, it couldn't get done then?
Either way, we had a great stay and look forward to using your service again.
