Check your rod, tie your flies, and make sure the bike tires are up to pressure because Ptarmigan Townhome is waiting for you! One of a flock of townhomes on a short, private street right next to Gore Creek, it's the perfect, temporary nest for snow lovers and summer fun-seekers alike. Just a short (free) bus ride from the bustling epicenter of Vail Village, Ptarmigan is a welcome, but not too distant, refuge.
When you step into Ptarmigan's living area, your feet will feel the polished luxury of beautiful hardwood floors. With its rustic wooden beams and big wood fireplace, the home exudes the essence of a mountain lodge. But Ptarmigan is not so rustic that you'll miss your favorite show or be without the movies or music you enjoy. Stoke the fire and watch your favorite show, DVD, or work on your laptop with the free WIFI. The couch and two comfy chairs are strategically located to enjoy the fire or watch TV.
As though built on a stage, the rest of the lower level is elevated. Step up a short step onto the gorgeous stone floor in the kitchen area and you'll find everything you need at mealtime. Its stainless steel appliances and slab granite counters give you plenty of prep-room and make for easy cleanup. Swap stories and discuss vacation plans as you share a meal around the big wooden table (seating four), or cozy up to the granite bar within arms reach of the kitchen.
The main floor bathroom features a steam shower / sauna; the perfect way to relax after a long hike, bike ride, or day on the slopes.
At bedtime, head up the Escher-like stairwell to the bedrooms on the second floor. There's a king bed and a flat screen TV in the master bedroom. Slide open the door to the balcony and listen to the wind in the pines and rustling of Gore Creek just below you. The second bedroom has views of Vail Mountain and features two full size beds. There's a beautifully finished, full bathroom up here as well. And the kids or teenagers have their own hideaway! Pull out the ladder built into the wall and climb up into the loft where they'll find a goose down single mattress and comforter.
If you're a cyclist, Ptarmigan is the place for you! Right outside the back door is a paved bike path that follows Gore Creek into Vail Village and beyond. There are 18 bike trails of varying difficulty in the Vail area. The streams around Vail are perfect for fly-fishing. Take a raft trip on the Eagle River or survey the landscape around Vail Mountain from a hot air balloon. In winter, all the winter activities you associate with Vail are just a shuttle ride away. (A FREE Town of Vail bus is easily accessed with bus stop at the end of the driveway to the complex.) Any time of year you can unwind in the hot tub and sauna (located in the clubhouse) that are part of the Ptarmigan Townhome complex. In the summer, cool off Ptarmigan's outdoor pool.
