Nestled between majestic Mount Hood to the north, and the three peaks dubbed Tom, Dick, and Harry to the south, The Resort at Collins Lake in Government Camp is one of the acclaimed getaway spots on the scenic Mount Hood Byway. Frommer's Travel Guide describes this resort as "spacious" and "luxurious." Let this lovely and reasonably priced three bedroom chalet be your gateway to all the activities available in and around the 28-acre Resort.
In summer, step into the verdant expanse right outside your door. Follow the miles of interpretive trails through the old growth forest that weave around Collins Lake and stop for a picnic at one of the many picnic areas that punctuate the trail. Winter sports aficionados will feel at home here too: Slip the car into the roomy garage and you'll find a ski cleaning area complete with a wax iron, so it's perfect for getting ready for the slopes!
Don't forget to bring some DVDs; otherwise, you'll miss the experience of watching your favorite movies on the huge, 50-inch flat screen TV. Pick a spot, and sink into one of the plush couches that line the wall. Click on the gas fireplace, grab that article you were reading or bring up the laptop on the free WIFI. Relax! Make a cup of coffee or tea and step out on the balcony for some fresh air. This is your time away, so indulge your senses as the smell of the brew wafts up and mixes with the aroma of the Douglas firs in front of you, and your eyes gather filtered glimpses of the mountain through the pines.
Hungry? Weather permitting, you can follow the walking trails the short distance into nearby Government Camp where you'll find four restaurants that cater to a variety of tastes. If you're staying in for dinner, just head into the fully stocked kitchen that's up to the challenge of any culinary skill. The dining table seats six with three more padded stools at the bar so everyone can be comfortable.
When it's time for bed, head upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a private bathroom. Watch a late night talk show on the cable TV or nod off to a DVD. There's a second bedroom with another queen bed and a TV. Kids can have the bunk bed in the third bedroom; it also has a TV. (Don't let them stay up too late!) There are two full bathrooms and a half-bath as well.
Guests at this lodge are just steps away from the Collins Lake clubhouse with its grand Cascadian stone fireplace - the perfect place to enjoy that novel. Or, bring your towel and trunks and slip into the hot tub, the soothing steam of the sauna, or take a dip in the year-round pool. (The decks are heated!) Notwithstanding all the fun things to do at the resort itself, Government Camp is the perfect headquarters for your forays into summer or winter fun. Lots of hiking and biking trails near this chalet. Skiers can take advantage of the Vacasa special at Mount Hood Meadows, or head over to any of the five ski areas nearby. Whatever you like to do, there's something for you in the Government Camp, Mount Hood area!
