Molli & Steve Prince said: "Close to everything. "
Whether you're taking a contemplative stroll among the monuments and sculpted grounds of Boise's Veteran's Memorial Park, enjoying a picnic in Anne Morrison Park, or just following the Boise River on its meandering course beside the Boise River Greenbelt, you'll soon realize why Boise is called "The City of Trees." Trees are not only a great part of Boise's landscape, they carpet the hills that gently slope up to the east and become the majestic Rocky Mountains. Originally established in the 1830s about 40 miles downriver near present day Parma by the Hudson's Bay Company, the original Fort Boise was abandoned in the 1850s. The U.S. Army resurrected it during the Civil War (1863) in order to put it closer to the commerce moving on the Oregon Trail, and to make it easier to quell the massacres that were occurring along the river. Today the "City of Trees" is a vibrant mixture of traditional sites and new, exciting developments. It's not only the Idaho's capital city, it's also home to Boise State University.
