Like other world-class resorts, such as Squaw Valley and Vail in Colorado, Soda Springs is a resort whose stellar reputation and diverse attractions make it seem more like a city unto itself. Established in 1931, Soda is actually a sister resort to five other resorts in Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. Located just 12 miles west of historic and picturesque Truckee, Soda Springs is just one mile from Donner Summit, the fateful place where the Donner Party succumbed to the Sierra Nevada winter in 1846. Now, one can speedily traverse those once forbidden heights on highway 84, giving skiers and summer fun seekers quick access to the natural beauty and recreational treasure trove provided by the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
